Rose Mafrici

I come from a large family, as a child I escaped into nature to find some calm. I have always been driven to paint, and try to capture the private moments of awe and wonder I feel when immersed in nature. The way light can penetrate even the darkest woods and draw your attention to complex detail.

I am often inspired by wild, less manicured areas and ancient trees. I am obsessed with the delicate and subtle changes of colour, which help create a unique mood. I aim to capture exactly what I saw and felt at that precise moment in time without embellishment.

I discovered the Arborealists at an exhibition at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire. At last I had stumbled across a group of artists who have the same appreciation and affinity with nature as I do. Although the work varied considerably in style, I loved the fact that it also included high realism. A style which seems to be too quickly dismissed. Each artist captured nature with sensitivity and a strong sense of urgency to protect it. I am a very positive person, but feel strongly that the general public need to be encouraged to appreciate nature to a much greater extent. I already open up discussions on this topic regularly by painting in public at Champneys Spa each week, however, I would love to share my work with a much wider audience.
